In 2019, Burnaboy won the Best International Act at the 2019 BET Awards and was announced as Apple Music’s Up Next artist. Following the recognition, in July 2019 Burna released his fourth studio album African Giant and it won Album of the Year at the 2019 All Africa Music Awards. He was then nominated for Best World Music Album at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards.
On January 2020, the Superstar hitmaker lost to veteran African artist Angelique Kidjo in the category of Grammy World Best Album, dashing the hopes of millions of Nigerians who rooted deeply for his win
