Just a few days after his exit from Chocolate City MI Abaga discloses his reason for leaving and it has nothing to do with bad blood.
Following the shock that fans and music enthusiasts woke up to MI’s decision to leave a record label that has been a music haven for him 13 years, there’s a response now. MI announced his final exit from Chocolate City label to start his record label” Incredible Music”.
Contrary to the mundane industry narrative that anyone who lives their record label has some grievances, MI’s case is that of wanting to explore other avenues and opportunities, This he made very clear.
According to him;
“Nothing happened to the relationship [with Chocolate City]. We are family for life. Chocolate City is family. It is time for me to do a new thing musically. Generally, I have had a no-press policy on this issue.
The reason is that I don’t want my words to be twisted. I am careful about who I answer. The rapper stressed that he is grateful to Chocolate City for all he achieved during his time with them.
After a while, it is time to do a new thing and I am grateful for everything that was. I think right now, it is time for incredible music and for MI to move.”
On the same day, the reveal was made public, MI readily dished his 10th studio album titled Judah. The body of work has garnered engagement and has risen to top charts. Hence like he rightly puts it, there’s always more room to be and do more.
Emphasizing that the move has been long sought for, MI acknowledges the place and position of Chocolate city over his career and the influences that have been made open for him. He shares that not every music relationship ends with the doors closed. There’s also the desire to move on to other things and avenues to grow which is something that he did with his exit.
Also putting it out there, for online observers who are quick to misconstrue his words, that the relationship with choc city is still very solid and that the label is and will remain family for life.
