The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed that artiste Azeez Fashola aka Naira Marley has turned himself in. Fashola was among the guests at the 42nd birthday party organized weekend by actress Funke Akindele-Bello for her husband Abdul Rasheed Bello at their residence in disregard of the lockdown directive ordered by the government to stop further spread of COVID-19.
Naira Marley is currently at police custody, following the instruction by the Lagos state police command to submit himself for violating the social distancing order given by the Federal Government.
The Commissioner of Police in Lagos, Hakeem Odumosu has confirmed this development. The spokesman Bala Elkana also said the music star would be charged to court, adding that efforts were on to arrest others who attended the party.
Recall that Funke Akindele, aka Jenifa, on Saturday, organized a birthday party with her husband. The party saw the likes of Naira Marley and other popular celebrities in attendance including Gbadamosi ADP gubernatorial candidate. Nigerians who were outraged dragged the couple in a twitter frenzy on Sunday and raised the concerns a notch higher.
For violating the government’s order, police swung into action and arrested Funke and her husband. Both were arraigned yesterday. Funke and her husband pleaded guilty to hosting the party despite the coronavirus lockdown. They were sentenced to 14 days of community service and fined N100,000 each by a magistrate court in Ogba, Lagos.
The court hearing was scheduled for the 8th of April were verdicts will be passed on Naira Marley. Meanwhile, several celebrities are blowing hot on the manner in which the situation was managed as things have escalated since the arrest.
