Baby trafficking gang busted in Lagos

Policemen attached to the Lagos State Police Command have intercepted four suspects for alleged trafficking of a month old baby at Anthony area of the state.The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Odumosu during a press briefing on Monday said two of the suspects were arrested with the baby while their accomplices were arrested for allegedly paying to buy the innocent baby.”On April 4 at about 2pm, police officers from Anthony Division on enforcement duty at Anthony Oke pin down point intercepted a Toyota Sienna SUV carrying 7 passengers.”Among the passengers are one Patrick Mbama; 41 and Ogechi Chinonso Ekwebele; 30, traveling together with a baby of about a month old, suspected to be stolen.”They were coming from Orlu, Imo State. All the occupants of the vehicle were arrested for violating the ban on inter states travel and the vehicle was impounded.”Upon questioning, this particular couple claimed that a childless man and wife in Lagos had paid for the said Baby.”The childless couples who ordered for the Baby are Izuchukwu Okafor; 51, from Oraifite, Imo state and Cecilia Okafor, 40, were arrested.”The name of the child’s parent as contained in the birth certificate recovered is that of the buyers. The Baby’s date of birth is 23/03/2020.”The biological parents of the Baby were traced. The Baby will today be handed over to them, while the suspects will be charged to Court.” he said.
