Man kills fiancee, commits suicide in Lagos

A man, identified as Chris Ndukwe, reportedly stabbed his fiancée and mother of his two children, Olamide Omajuwa Alli, to death, before committing suicide on Sunday, June 21, 2020, at his residence in Victory Point Estate, Ilasan, Lagos State.

Chris, 39, and 25-year-old Olamide, who was the founder of Pearl Academy, Nigeria, dated on and off for seven years and were said to have fixed their wedding for August 2020, before the incident.

According to some family members, the couple had two boys, aged 7 and 3. Chris lived in Victory Point Estate Ilasan, while Olamide lived in Ogba.

She is said to have visited him alongside her younger sister on Saturday, based on his invitation. The sister was the first to have noticed that the couple were dead and raised alarm.

In her statement, she said she was woken up by loud music from their room. It was gathered that Chris tied Olamide up, sealed her mouth, used the pliers to pull her braids before stabbing her multiple times on the head and eyes.

CANDIID ONLINE gathered that a close friend of the deceased recounted her experience meeting Olamide and shared via her Instagram thus;

“Hmm! Olamide… Today was supposed to be a fresh start, a week for better news… I’m still weak and I can’t wrap my head around this… You had big dreams for this year… We had spoken about so many things. Made so many plans, but someone, your husband-to-be, the father of your children had to take your own life! How is this even possible?

“So all the plans just went down the drain? Your kids, the kids you’ve been impacting through @pearlacademynig, what will happen now?

“I met Olamide on Instagram. She had reached out to me for something and after many discussions with her, I knew she was serious, I decided to take her under my wings and just try to help any way I could.

“She was a pleasant young girl, very hard working. She had been through a lot but wanted other young girls not to go through all she had been through, so she started @pearlacademynig. She won a grant from my uncle’s company, Variant Advisory and since then, has been doing her part to educate teenage girls… She organized a parenting conference in March then COVID struck. I cannot believe this is happening.

“We had spoken about him, and he seemed sane. Anytime I think about it, I tell myself that ‘We will get him and he will pay for it’, then I come back to reality and realize that he killed himself too. I get weaker. This is not a movie.

“May your soul Rest In Peace… I’ve been trying to reach out to her family since I spoke to her staff this morning to no avail. If anyone has their details, please send to me.

“Like I said on Saturday, there are a lot of MAD people walking on the street that look normal; if you see traits of a psychopath, I don’t care if you have 100 children, please run for your life! This is heart-wrenching.”

Speaking on the terrible incident, Lagos Police Spokesperson, Bala Elkana, disclosed that the woman was found with deep cuts on her head while the man’s mouth was foaming with a whitish substance.

It is alleged that Chris stabbed Olamide to death with a kitchen knife and thereafter drank some poisonous substance. Two bloodstained kitchen knives, two empty bottles of the poison, three empty cans of energy drink, and a pair of pliers were recovered from the scene.

The real cause of the incident is yet to be established, but there are speculations that it had to do with the paternity of one of their children.
