Coronavirus Fear Is Causing The Ruler of Ijebuland To Cancel Ojude Oba Festival

The Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, Oba (Dr) Sikiru Adetona, has called off this year’s edition of the annual Ojude Oba Festival scheduled to hold August 2, 2020.

Consequently, the coordinator of the festival, Chief Fassy Yusuf, signed a statement that contained this information.

Certainly, the coronavirus pandemic caused the cancellation of the festival.

 

Ruler of Ijebuland Awujale

So, the statement reads: “The Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, Oba (Dr) Sikiru Adetona gave approval for the cancellation.

“The decision  was in deference to medical advice and as a display of sensitivity to the environment.

“The global festival would have held Sunday, August 2, 2020, two days after Eid-eI-Kabir.

Above all, the first-class monarch wished all ljebu sons and daughters the best of the season.

In the same vein, he enjoined them to adhere to all Covid-19 medical protocol.

In conclusion, the Awujale supplicated to God for an early end of the pandemic.

CANDIIDONLINE reports that the Ojude Oba Festival is a big culture fiesta celebrated in the South-West region.

It attracts top multinationals as sponsors. Culture enthusiasts attend from different parts of the world.

In a similar vein, the organizers of the 2020 Ballon d’Or cancelled the Award  over coronavirus fears.

Organiser of the award France Football made the announcement in a statement released on their official website.

They posited that the cancellation of this year’s award was as a result of “lack of sufficient fair conditions” caused by Covid-19.

France Football said awarding a prize in a “crippled” year would “not be worthy” of their history.
