Road Safety Corps Demotes Officers Captured In Public Brawl Video

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has demoted some of its officers involved in a public brawl.

Passersby captured the brawl in a video that also had a naked tricycle rider damaging an FRSC’s patrol vehicle.

The demoted officers fought in the streets of Benin City, Edo State. Likewise, the naked the police have charged the tricycle rider charged to court.

The police filed the case against the driver at the Evbuoriaria Magistrate Court 8, Sapele road, Benin.

But he pleaded not guilty to the 2 count charge bordering on breach of public peace and malicious damage of FRSC Patrol Vehicle.

A statement released by FRSC spokesperson Bisi Kazeem, read;

“The Federal Road Safety Corps has commenced legal action against the erring tricycle rider.

“Witnesses saw him destroying an FRSC patrol vehicle in a viral video recorded along Sapele road Benin, Edo state.

”During the proceedings, the defendant pleaded not guilty to a 2 count charge. The charges bordered on breach of public peace and malicious damage of FRSC Patrol Vehicle.

”However, the Counsel for the defendant eventually applied for bail. The Court granted the application and adjourned the case to 5 August, 2020 for further hearing.

“Meanwhile, a disciplinary panel that conducted the investigation into the incident recommended sanction on the 7-man patrol team involved in the incident. The sanction involved the award of loss of seniority and reduction in rank.

“In addition, the Corps Marshal directed the redeployment of the affected FRSC staff from their present Command.

“The Disciplinary Panel investigated the affected personnel and found liable of patrol misconduct, in civility, unprofessional and unethical behaviour towards a road traffic offender. To clarify, these acts contradict the patrol operational ethics of the Corps.”
