Charly Blasts Nigerian Youths For Preferring BBNaija To National Issues


Veteran singer Charles Oputa popularly known as Charly Boy has slammed Nigerian youths for paying more attention to the reality TV show, Big Brother Naija than pressing national issues.

The self-acclaimed activist in a post shared via his Instagram page on Monday, August 10, 2020, expressed shock at the rate at which young Nigerians have made the reality show trend on social media while ignoring some of the socio-political issues in the country.

“I don’t Understand Naija Youths. At this point the collective shame is shameful. Big Brother Naija: Erica caught on camera having sex with Kiddwayya Nigerians Comments — 60,700 Likes — 103,000 Shares — 70,800,” he wrote.

”Nigerian Government signs power generation contract with Siemens to boost electricity. Nigerians Comments — 4 Likes — 2 Shares — 6 — Total number of votes cast Big Brother Nigeria 2019 = 170 million. — Total number of votes cast General election 2019 = 27 million.”

“A practical reality of who we are as people and where our priority lies as citizens.

The funny side in all of these is that we still go to bed, have a good sleep, and wake up with the hope to meet a Nigeria we didn’t create. Mumu Nigerians! Mumu Nigerians!! Mumu Nigerians!!!”


Notable as one of Nigeria’s most controversial entertainers, he is best known for his alternative lifestyle, political views, and media productions, most notably The Charly Boy Show.

He has served as president of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria, and in 2011 was an Idol Series judge.

Charly Boy is known as an advocate of the masses as he has fought for the rights of the average Nigerian. He has on several occasions been tortured by the Nigerian police and the military for standing up to his country’s government.

However, he is also, on occasion, regarded as their friend, depending on the sensibility of those in power.

An avid supporter of Okada riders in Nigeria – an organization that has been frowned on by government as they have been regarded as a menace and unsafe transportation he has fought for the rights of Okada users – His efforts earned him the name Area Fada.
