A rumour that rapper Marshall Mathers a.k.a. Eminem died trended on Tuesday after some Twitter warriors created the hoax.
CANDIIDONLINE reports that the #RIPEminem hashtag continued to grow, garnering more than 20,000 mentions.
HeavyEnt reached out to Eminem’s rep to see if they had a comment, but didn’t immediately hear back. At the time media outlet published the story, Eminem hadn’t responded on social media.
While the #RIPEminem hoax seemingly started as a “joke,” it confused some Twitter users who flocked to the microblog to find out if the beloved rapper was OK.
Others, however, took the opportunity to share memes of Eminem. Some used pictures of notable figures like Ellen DeGeneres, Jeff Bezos, and Logic to poke fun at the hoax.
Neither Eminem nor his representatives have responded to the current death hoax. However, readers should be wary of sharing information they see on the internet without verifying.
As a frontrunner in the hip-hop industry, Eminem’s death several reputable media outlets would have reported it extensively.
For now, the 47-year-old rapper is said to be doing fine, as he recently came out with a track along with Kid Cudi, titled “The Adventures of Moon Man & Slim Shady.”
Eminem took the chance to hit out at New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees.
