Fears of electricity generation collapse began to spread across Nigeria after one popular media outlet reported the news of ‘Kainji Dam Explosion’.
But the authorities have cleared the air about the present condition of the hydroelectricity power station.
So, we present 3 key things we know about the reported explosion at Kainji Dam
1. It’s Fake News
The Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) told Nigerians to ignore the circulating story of an explosion at Kainji Dam. It described the report as fake news.
2. Kainji Dam Is Safe
NIHSA Director-General, Clement Nze said in statement that the dam is safe and no explosion at all happen for at the power station.
3. No Official Report Of An Explosion In The Power Station
According to Nze, the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency is working together with the company operating dams for the country and they have not reported any explosion in any of the nation’s dams.
“Nothing happened in the dam, nothing like that. Although the dam is full because of what is happening in Niger Republic and the heavy rains in the country. But there is no threat at all.
Kainji Dam is one of the biggest hydroelectricity power station in Nigeria. The dam is New Bussa town, Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
Meanwhile, Nigeria still generates around 4000 mega watts of electricity across the country. At least 700 mega watts come from Kainji Dam.
